Antigua and Barbuda has been identified as a priority country under the CariSECURE 2.0 initiative, a program aimed at combating human trafficking and youth involvement in crime across the Eastern Caribbean.<\/p>

The project, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), focuses on improving state capacities for timely and effective prosecution of human trafficking cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Media Analysis of the Coverage of Youth Involvement in Crime and Violence and Trafficking in Persons (June 2021 to June 2023), the initiative seeks to address gaps in human trafficking prevention by equipping law enforcement and stakeholders with the tools needed to mitigate exploitation and victimization.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The challenges in the region, exacerbated by forced migration and economic hardships, have heightened the urgency to develop effective strategies.<\/p>

Efforts in Antigua and Barbuda include fostering regional collaboration and leveraging media coverage to educate the public about trafficking issues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Experts recommend that journalists in the country adopt a human-rights-based approach in their reporting to ensure accurate representation of victims and their experiences.<\/p>

While the initiative marks a positive step forward, stakeholders stress the importance of sustained efforts and partnerships with civil society organizations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CariSECURE 2.0 project\u2019s success will depend on how effectively these partnerships can be nurtured to address the root causes of trafficking and youth crime.<\/p>
