PM Browne Warns Protesters of Legal Consequences for Breaking the Law<\/strong><\/p>

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has issued a stern warning to Barbuda protesters, stating that while the government respects their constitutional right to demonstrate, it will not tolerate illegal activities or obstruction of legitimate development work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a strong statement addressing the ongoing tensions over a housing project on the island, Mr. Browne affirmed that law enforcement would act to ensure order and that individuals engaging in unlawful behavior would be held accountable.<\/p>

\u201cWe respect the right to peaceful protest, but no one is above the law,\u201d the Prime Minister said. \u201cThose who insist on being obstructive and breaking the laws of this country will face consequences. We will take them to court, and they will be duly punished.\u201d<\/p>

Mr. Browne also dismissed claims that the presence of armed police on the island was intended to intimidate residents. He explained that officers were there to maintain peace and ensure that government-mandated work could continue without disruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur intent is not to provoke violence but to ensure that the work and objectives of the government are carried out lawfully,\u201d he said. \u201cAny escalation will be the responsibility of those engaging in illegal actions, not the government.\u201d<\/p>
