Prime Minister Gaston Browne has welcomed U.S. President Joe Biden\u2019s posthumous pardon of Marcus Garvey, hailing it as a long-overdue correction of a historical injustice. Garvey, a celebrated Black nationalist leader, was convicted of mail fraud in 1923 in a case widely regarded as politically motivated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Browne revealed that he and other CARICOM leaders had written to President Biden advocating for Garvey\u2019s exoneration, emphasizing his wrongful imprisonment for activism aimed at uniting and uplifting Black communities. \u201cWe are happy that President Biden has supported and granted the pardon,\u201d Browne stated, commending the U.S. leader and his administration for their decision.<\/p>
