As we prepare to head to the polls on January 14th for the crucial bye-election following the untimely passing of the late Honourable Asot Michael, I feel compelled to reach out to you all with an urgent challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This election is not just another routine decision; it is a moment that calls for us to set aside party allegiance and emotions, and to vote \u2014 for once \u2014 for ourselves. We must vote in our own best interest, prioritizing the issues that profoundly impact our lives and our community.<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Let us take a moment to reflect on our past experiences. After decades of loyalty, how many of us can say we are genuinely excited to vote, especially after enduring a relentless onslaught of failed promises from the Antigua Labour Party? <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Our constituency has long been perceived as a safe seat for Labour, yet it remains one of the most neglected regions in our nation. Aside from the invaluable support directly from the late Minister Michael, how many of us have truly seen our lives improve?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is time to ask ourselves: \u201cAre we ready to say enough is enough?\u201d This time around, it is not about empty promises. It is about voting for St. Peter, for Parham, for Fitches Creek, for Paynter\u2019s, and for Pares Villages. We need to center our focus on prominent issues, and one issue that demands our attention is our long-overdue back pay.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

How many of us will go to the polls on January 14th without having received the promised additional month\u2019s salary, which should have been disbursed by December 31st, 2024? Why are we met with constant runaround from the treasury? Why do some receive their payments while others are left in the dark?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is more than a financial oversight; it is a matter of respect and integrity. \u201c**No back pay, no vote**\u201d<\/strong> should resonate loudly among us. We must demand accountability and ensure that we receive what is rightfully ours before we lend our support to any candidate. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Are we truly more concerned about campaign blitzes or the number of attendees at a UPP rally than ensuring we get the remuneration we so desperately need? The government must feel the weight of our plight and respond immediately to resolve all outstanding debts owed to us. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In honour of the late Asot Michael, let us consider the courageous stand he took. He dedicated himself to the Labour Party, investing his resources and time, and yet when he faced the harsh realities of neglect, he made the bold choice to stand as an independent candidate. His historic victory serves as a powerful reminder that change is indeed possible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is time for us to follow his lead \u2014 to make a telling choice and stand against the prevailing norm. We may be expected to vote one way, but we hold the power to choose differently. Let this bye-election be your opportunity to assert that we will no longer accept neglect or broken promises. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In closing, I urge you to think deeply about your vote. This is not merely about a political party; it is about our lives, our families, and our future.
