A Year of Remarkable Achievements,\u201d is how Prime Minister Gaston Browne is describing the accomplishments of Antigua and Barbuda during the year justended, 2024.<\/p>

In his annual New Year\u2019s Day message to the nation, PM Browne said the year 2024 was one where the country broke records one after the other in practically every sphere of development from tourism, agriculture and improvements in the living standards for the majority of people in<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAntigua and Barbuda enjoyed growth of six per-cent in 2024, expanding our economy to $6B, represented by economic expansion in every sector to include agriculture and increased climate resilience.  In 2024, we shattered records and made history.  Through the collective efforts of our people, we welcomed 1.1 million visitors to our shores, breaking the previous record we set ourselves in 2019,\u201d he revealed.<\/p>

According to the prime minister, achieving these milestones were delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020-21 and he predicted that in the absence of national disasters, wars or other incidents over which Antigua and Barbuda has no control, he expects these achievements to be bettered during this year, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOn December 21st, an unprecedented 51 flights landed at V.C. Bird International Airport; a spectacular display evidencing our growing prominence. This included 13 international flights, 35 regional flights, and 3 private charters.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMeanwhile, Barbuda\u2019s newly opened airport welcomed many private jects carrying high net worth visitors, positioning Barbuda as one of a marque luxury destination.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBarbuda was a recognized as one of Frommers \u201cBest Places to go in 2025\u201d highlighting its charm and tranquility and the fact that it has emerged as a one of the most sought-after luxury destinations for the world\u2019s wealthiest individuals,\u201d he stated in his review of the nation\u2019s performance over the past year.<\/p>

The prime minister was however quick to remind his audience that this was not always so.  \u201cLet us not forget that we did not always enjoy this success.   In 2014, when my administration assumed office, our country had just one daily flight from American Airlines, which the former UPP administration subsidized to keep in service,\u201d he recalled<\/p>

Today, Prime Minister Browne noted, American Airlines operates four daily flights: two flights daily from Miami, one from New York, and one from Charlotte \u2013 without subsidies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that other carriers, including Delta, JetBlue, United, Virgin Atlantic and British Airways; have strengthened the country\u2019s connectivity with the world, solidifying its reputation as a global hub for tourism. <\/p>\n
