Grandma Mirie\u2019s return to Anguilla felt like a heartfelt homecoming, filled with memories and meaningful connections, including meeting Premier Ellis Webster. 7. Caribbean Global Awards <\/strong>\u2013 Extraordinary Achievement (because \u201cordinary\u201d isn\u2019t in her vocabulary).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her influence didn\u2019t stop at home \u2013 the Caribbean came calling to honor her in the U.K. In the presence of the President of Guyana, Irfaan Ali, Grandma Mirie accepted with grace (and probably with a bottle of her essential oil in her purse).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. Culinary Collaborations (with some serious chef firepower).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grandma Mirie collaborated with top chefs, including Anguilla\u2019s Kerth Gumbs and Kelston Connor, learning to make sushi and a decadent \u201cducuna-inspired\u201d dessert. She also joined a culinary discussion with Antiguan chef Kareem Roberts and Levi Roots of Reggae Reggae Sauce <\/em>fame. Inspired by the experience, she launched a contest to name her organic seasoning \u2013 Pep Up De Pot <\/em>emerged as the winning name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

9. Her Granddaughter\u2019s Art on Display (cue proud tears).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Watching her granddaughter Odessa\u2019s artwork shine during Art Week was proof that creativity runs deep in the family. Recognizing Odessa\u2019s talent, she signed her up for Art classes at the age of 8. (Odessa, created the cover of Grandma Mirie\u2019s book). The grandmother might season pots, but her granddaughter seasons canvases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10. Sharing Her Talents  (because everyone deserves sweet treats).<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Chapter 3 <\/em>of her book titled, \u201cOnce a Teacher, Forever a Motivator and Way-Maker<\/strong>,\u201d Grandma Mirie\u2019s lifelong passion for teaching and uplifting others shines through her work. One of her proudest moments was teaching prisoners to make mango cheese on International Mango Day, <\/em>blending community service with culinary creativity. She\u2019s on a mission to visit all nine schools where she taught, donating her book to their libraries to inspire future generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Year\u2019s Bitter-Sweet Moments<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Biggest Disappointment:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The passing of her dear friend Evelyn Adams in the UK while she was there. A 75-year friendship, irreplaceable and cherished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
