As 2024 comes to a close, the Agricultural Extension Division (AED) is preparing for a transformative year ahead. While the challenges of the past year \u2013 limited funding, poor infrastructure, and constrained communication systems \u2013 created hurdles for farmers and extension employees. They also highlighted the resilience and determination of the country\u2019s agricultural community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Mr. Ika Fergus\/Chief Extension Officer(ag) these lessons have shaped AED\u2019s vision for 2025, setting the stage for bold initiatives that promise to drive sustainable growth and innovation.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Climate change has brought unpredictable weather patterns and increasing threats to the farming industry. In 2025, AED hopes to take decisive steps to address these challenges by hosting training sessions to empower producers with climate-smart practices, such as water conservation techniques, soil health management, and crop diversification. Resilient crops like sweet potatoes and cassava will play a central role in these efforts, offering reliable options for food production in challenging conditions.<\/p>

Additionally, ensuring a steady nutritious supply remains a top priority. AED will focus on improving crop and livestock management practices while reducing environmental impact. Diversified farming systems will be promoted to minimize reliance on single crops and boost nutritional diversity. Through partnerships with educational and health institutions, AED will also integrate nutrition education into community programs, fostering healthier lifestyles across the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Agriculture must evolve to attract the next generation, and 2025 will see AED increasing youth engagement.
