Prime Minister Gaston Browne has voiced strong concerns about the management of the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA), citing inefficiencies, service disruptions, and a lack of accountability. <\/p>

Speaking during a recent discussion on Pointe FM, Browne described APUA as a significant challenge for his administration, particularly its Water Division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Browne criticized APUA for its handling of water supply issues and delays in addressing service complaints.<\/p>

\u201cThe greatest threat to my administration is not the opposition\u2014it\u2019s APUA, particularly the Water Division,\u201d he said. He pointed out the slow response to water leaks and other issues, adding that such inefficiencies undermine public trust and create widespread frustration.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Prime Minister also raised concerns about the agency\u2019s focus on bureaucratic procedures rather than delivering practical solutions. \u201cPeople need water in their pipes\u2014KPIs and strategies mean nothing if basic services aren\u2019t delivered,\u201d Browne remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Browne did not rule out the possibility that political affiliations within APUA could be contributing to service delays. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s not inconceivable that some elements within APUA may be weaponizing the system against the government,\u201d he said. While he stressed the need for further investigation, Browne called for vigilance and action to prevent any potential sabotage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Prime Minister called for stronger leadership at APUA, urging the replacement of individuals unable or unwilling to meet performance expectations.<\/p>

\u201cIf they\u2019re too tired and can\u2019t get the job done, they need to move out of the way. If they don\u2019t want to move voluntarily, I\u2019ve said to the minister\u2014move them,\u201d he stated.<\/p>

Browne also highlighted the need for urgency in addressing the utility\u2019s challenges. \u201cWe cannot allow APUA to become the Achilles\u2019 heel of this administration,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s time to ensure proper management and accountability.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the challenges, Browne reaffirmed his government\u2019s commitment to improving utility services and meeting the needs of citizens. \u201cOur focus remains on resolving these issues and ensuring the people of Antigua and Barbuda receive the quality of service they deserve,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
