Senator David Massiah has criticised the government\u2019s decision to prioritise building a food court at the V.C. Bird International Airport while unresolved infrastructure issues continue to affect the facility.<\/p>

During his presentation in the Senate budget debate, Massiah highlighted the concerns of airport workers who have faced poor working conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOn two occasions, the workers up at the airport stopped work and called [management], saying, \u2018We can\u2019t work on the system here\u2014it smells bad, horrible, like sewage,\u2019\u201d Massiah said. He added that management had resorted to giving workers masks to continue operations, rather than addressing the underlying problem.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The senator also raised concerns about the condition of the runway. \u201cWhen the plane lands, you think maybe you\u2019re riding cobblestones,\u201d he said, calling for urgent repairs to improve the experience for both visitors and workers.<\/p>

Criticising the government\u2019s spending priorities, Massiah said, \u201cYou\u2019re funding to go and build a food court up at the airport, but look at repairing the airport properly. There are a lot of problems there that have not been touched.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Massiah tied the issue to broader infrastructure challenges across the country, questioning the government\u2019s commitment to creating a \u201cresilient, harmonious, and prosperous nation.\u201d<\/p>
