Liar, Liar, Wayne On Fire?<\/p>

In the ever-evolving landscape of local politics, credibility stands as the cornerstone of public service. Recent allegations of fabrication leveled against Attorney Wayne Marsh, the United Progressive Party’s candidate for St. Paul, have cast a shadow over his campaign before it has truly begun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a scathing Facebook post, Dr. Cleon Athill systematically dismantled Marsh’s claims on a recent radio show about their supposed prior interactions and collaboration. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In particular she rubbished Mr. Marsh’s claims to have been a campaign worker, advisor, supporter of her political approach, a moral compass on what constitutes bribery when helping constituents, and the reason she left politics after his return to Antigua.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

What makes this situation particularly troubling is not just the alleged dishonesty, but the nature of the falsehoods themselves. Dr. Athill alleges that Marsh fabricated entire conversations, misrepresented his campaign involvement, and even took credit for her departure from politics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If true, these aren’t minor misunderstandings or differences in interpretation \u2013 they represent a fundamental disconnect from reality that voters should find deeply concerning.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

I have followed Dr. Athill closely. She is many things and is a bit too by-the-numbers for the current political culture, though I obviously understand the principle behind being constrained and circumspect; yet Dr. Cleon Athill is no liar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is honest to a fault and displays strong conviction in her political philosophy and dealings, even though many of us would have wanted her to be more flexible and conventional in the political arena. I therefore regard her accusations of Mr. Marsh to be highly credible.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Politics, at its core, is built on trust. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

When a candidate begins their journey by apparently manufacturing relationships, responsibilities and conversations that never existed, it raises serious questions about their fitness for public office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

St. Paul’s constituents deserve a representative who can stand on their own merits without needing to embellish their past or appropriate others experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UPP leadership should also take note. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Having a candidate accused of fabricating stories so early in their campaign poses risks not just to their chances in St. Paul, but to the UPP’s broader credibility. Swift action is necessary to either verify Marsh’s claims or address what appears to be a serious lapse in judgment, to put it mildly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UPP supporters of St. Paul deserve better than political theater built on artificial relationships and imagined conversations. They deserve a campaign standard-bearer focused on real issues, real solutions, and most importantly, real truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
