Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez has called for the construction of an additional marina in Antigua to accommodate the growing number of larger yachts visiting the island. <\/p>

Speaking during an interview on Pointe FM, Minister Fernandez pointed to the success of the recently concluded Antigua Charter Yacht Show and the challenges posed by the increased size of yachts in recent years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis year\u2019s yacht show saw about 62 yachts, fewer than in previous years, but the boats are now significantly larger,\u201d Fernandez explained. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFalmouth and English Harbour had to turn away yachts because they simply couldn\u2019t accommodate them. Other harbors are facing the same issue.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Minister also reflected on his attendance at the Monaco Yacht Show, describing how such events provide opportunities to promote Antigua and gain insights into the industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cInitially, I was hesitant to attend the Monaco show because I didn\u2019t think it was necessary. But being there opened doors\u2014people are more inclined to share feedback and insights when they know a minister is present,\u201d he said.<\/p>

Fernandez emphasized the critical role the yachting industry plays in Antigua\u2019s tourism sector and its broader economy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe need to address these space limitations if we\u2019re serious about maintaining Antigua\u2019s standing in the global yachting industry,\u201d he remarked. <\/p>

\u201cYachting brings significant economic benefits, from increased business for local service providers to more spending in restaurants and shops.\u201d<\/p>

With yachts growing in size and Antigua continuing to attract high-profile visitors, Fernandez reiterated the importance of infrastructure investments. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
