Government to Develop Tier 4 Data Center to Boost Digital Infrastructure<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The government plans to establish a Tier 4 data center in 2025, a critical infrastructure upgrade designed to enhance digital storage, security, and efficiency for key national systems such as Customs, Treasury, and Inland Revenue.<\/p>

Information and Technology Minister Melford Nicholas outlined the initiative during his 2025 budget debate contribution, emphasizing the importance of upgrading the country\u2019s digital infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWith the two cloud platforms that we are operating, we find it necessary to have our own data center,\u201d Nicholas stated, highlighting the growing demand for advanced storage solutions and data protection.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The new data center will support critical government systems, ensuring their reliability and security. Nicholas explained, \u201cIt supports not only Customs, it supports Immigration, it supports the Treasury, it supports Inland Revenue, it supports all of the platforms that the government utilizes to be able to deliver its services.\u201d<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The facility will be built to Tier 4 standards, which provide the highest level of redundancy and reliability. \u201cAs we go more and more into this digital area, as we begin to look to the requirements for us to not only have AI solutions as part of the work that we do, this requires a massive amount of storage and, in addition to storage, it also requires us to have data protection and redundancy,\u201d Nicholas explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The minister noted that the current data storage arrangements have been outgrown, prompting the need for this upgrade. \u201cWe have a limited data center that first started off just outside the Office of the Prime Minister; it is now collocated in the cellar of this building. But we have outgrown that,\u201d he said.<\/p>

Nicholas refrained from disclosing the data center’s exact location, citing national security considerations. However, he assured that \u201cthe building is already in place. It already has the structural integrity that is required for such a data center.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Construction of the data center is expected to begin soon, with completion anticipated in 2025.<\/p>
