The government has invested $21 million in acquiring a fleet of heavy-duty equipment to support road repairs and construction in 2025. <\/p>

During her presentation in the 2025 Budget Debate, Housing Minister Maria Browne highlighted the importance of this investment in addressing infrastructure challenges and reducing reliance on rented machinery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBy the end of this month, some [equipment] will have landed already, and at the end of this month, some more will come,\u201d Browne stated. \u201cGoing into January and February 2025, all of our equipment should be here.\u201d<\/p>

The equipment includes graders, rollers, spreaders, T-machines, and excavators, which will allow the government to undertake roadworks without delays caused by machinery shortages.<\/p>

Minister Browne acknowledged the difficulties faced in 2024, including the need to rent equipment due to aging and frequently broken-down machinery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The minister also highlighted efforts to ensure a trained workforce for operating the new equipment.<\/p>

\u201cWe\u2019ve teamed up with the Ministry of Education to have this training program for heavy-duty operators, an accredited training program, by the way, so when they\u2019ve gotten their certificate here, they can operate elsewhere in the region and even internationally,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The upgraded fleet will be critical in addressing road repairs across Antigua and Barbuda, including long-neglected community roads and major infrastructure projects. <\/p>
