Government Partners with UWI to Introduce Epoxy Coating for Leaking Roofs<\/em><\/p>

A specialized epoxy coating developed in collaboration with the University of the West Indies (UWI) is set to address leaking concrete roofs in government buildings across Antigua and Barbuda. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Housing Minister Maria Browne, during the 2025 Budget Debate, announced the initiative, describing it as a long-term solution to a recurring issue.<\/p>

\u201cThis epoxy coating provides a 15-20 year guarantee against leaks and offers a cost-effective way to extend the lifespan of our public buildings,\u201d Minister Browne stated.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The epoxy solution, specifically designed for concrete surfaces, will first be applied to priority buildings, including the Parliament, the High Court, and the Archives. These structures have faced significant damage due to persistent leaks, impacting their functionality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The minister highlighted that the first shipment of the epoxy has already arrived in Antigua, and application will begin early in 2025. <\/p>

\u201cWe have quite a few [government buildings] that have concrete roofs,\u201d Browne explained. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat has happened is that National Housing has gotten on to the University of the West Indies, who has created a special epoxy that will allow for at least 15 to 20 years\u2019 guarantee of no leaks on these concrete roofs.\u201d<\/p>
