Antigua and Barbuda and Kingdom\nof Jordan have pledged to build upon the existing warm relations between the\ntwo states.<\/p>

That\u2019s one of the outcomes of a\nmeeting held between Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s Minister of Foreign Affairs,\nImmigration and Trade, Hon. E.P. Chet Greene and Deputy Minister of Foreign\nAffairs and Expatriates of the Kingdom of Jordan, Zaed Louzy, held in Amman,\nJordan last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister\nLouzy welcomed Foreign Affairs Minister Greene to the Hashemite Kingdom of\nJordan, and he expressed the Kingdom\u2019s desire to establish Jordan as a beacon\nof moderation within the Arab World.<\/p>

Minister Louzy zeroed in on the\nongoing Palestinian conflict as being the most divisive issue affecting the\nentire Middle East region, and he explained the conflict\u2019s impact on the economies,\npolitics and security of neighboring countries, with considerable implications\nfor the peace and stability of the wider world. \nHe reaffirmed Jordan\u2019s support for the Two-State solution, the strategy\nendorsed by the United Nations, and he expressed Jordan\u2019s position that\npolitical negotiations are the only way forward if conflicts in Syria, Yemen\nand Libya are to be successfully resolved.<\/p>

The Deputy Foreign Minister shed\nlight on the heavy burden that Jordan is forced to bear caused by the presence\nof 1.3 million Syrian refugees who have fled to the country to escape fighting.\nHe cited the difficulties incurred by absorbing 150,000 Syrian refugee children\ninto the Jordanian school system, noting that United Nations covered only about\n23 percent of needed funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Deputy Foreign Minister, the Syrian\nrefugee crisis within Jordanian borders is a severe strain on the nation\u2019s\nlimited resources.<\/p>

In response, Minister Greene expressed his thanks to the\nJordanian government and people for the warm reception both he and his\ndelegation received during the visit to the Middle Eastern country. The\nminister voiced support for the Two-State policy as enunciated by Foreign\nMinister Louzy as being the only viable solution to the ongoing Palestinian\nissue. Greene said Antigua and Barbuda would support Jordanian efforts to gain\nmembership on key United Nations committees and organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s Ambassador to Jordan, Sami al\nMufleh, who was also part of the delegation, expressed his vision for Antigua\nand Barbuda\u2019s embassy in Amman to serve as a launch pad for the Caribbean\ncountry to expand its diplomatic footprint into that part of the world. He also\ndisclosed the desire of Jordan\u2019s ruler King Muhammed II, for Antigua and\nBarbuda to host the upcoming Aqaba Retreat, an international gathering of\nSecurity Ministers and military officials, aimed at eliminating the threat of\nIslamic radicalization.<\/p>

Opportunities for technical support and investment were\nalso discussed, with several Jordanian entities already expressing an interest\nin visiting the country to explore potential for improving bilateral\ncooperation while strengthening Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s economy. Lastly, both\nForeign Ministers expressed their openness to the possibility of the Antigua\nand Barbuda Ambassador to Jordan expanding his role to cover the State of\nIsrael in the future. <\/p>
