(CNN) \u2013\u2013 A man arrested Monday on a gun charge in Pennsylvania has been identified as the suspect in the \u201cbrazen, targeted\u201d fatal shooting last week of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Midtown Manhattan, according to New York police officials.<\/p>

Luigi Mangione, 26, was found at a McDonald\u2019s in Altoona with a gun and a suppressor \u201cboth consistent with the weapon used in the murder,\u201d New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch<\/a> said at a news conference Monday, referring to a device that muffles the sound of a firearm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Authorities also recovered a \u201cfraudulent New Jersey ID matching the ID our suspect used to check into his New York City hostel before the shooting,\u201d Tisch said, and \u201ca handwritten document that speaks to both his motivation and mindset.\u201d NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said the document did not include specific threats but indicated \u201cill will towards corporate America.\u201d<\/p>

The arrest seemingly brings to an end a sprawling manhunt<\/a> that expanded beyond the nation\u2019s largest city and across state lines. Scrutiny intensified as investigators recovered and analyzed various pieces of evidence, including shell casings from the scene of the shooting that police said had the words \u201cdelay,\u201d \u201cdeny\u201d and \u201cdefend\u201d written on them.<\/p>

The suspect was believed to have left New York City on an interstate bus, police officials previously said, after video cameras captured him entering the George Washington Bridge Bus Station on 178th Street but not leaving.<\/p>

The suspect was picked up in Altoona \u2013 about 230 miles from the hotel where the shooting occurred on December 4 \u2013 after a McDonald\u2019s employee thought he resembled the man in New York Police Department photos and called police, officials said. Mangione was \u201csitting there eating\u201d at the time, Kenny said, and officials praised the tipster for speaking up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kenny said Mangione was born and raised in Maryland and his last known address was in Honolulu. He had no history of arrests in New York, said the chief of detectives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the weapon and fake ID found on the suspect, Tisch said, police recovered \u201cclothing, including a mask, consistent with those worn by our wanted individual.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UnitedHealth Group hopes \u201ctoday\u2019s apprehension brings some relief to Brian\u2019s family, friends, colleagues, and the many others affected by this unspeakable tragedy,\u201d a spokesperson said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe thank law enforcement and will continue to work with them on this investigation. We ask that everyone respect the family\u2019s privacy as they mourn,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
