St. John\u2019s, Antigua and Barbuda<\/strong> \u2013 The nation will come together on Monday, December 9, 2024<\/strong>, to commemorate V.C. Bird Day<\/strong>, honoring the legacy of Sir Vere Cornwall Bird, the first Prime Minister and a celebrated National Hero. A wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the V.C. Bird Bust, Market Street, St. John\u2019s,<\/strong> at 8:30 AM.<\/p>

The event pays tribute to the remarkable contributions of Sir Vere Cornwall Bird, who played a pivotal role in the country’s journey to independence and the betterment of its citizens. As a labor leader, politician, and visionary, Sir Vere championed the rights of workers and the development of Antigua and Barbuda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born on December 9, 1909<\/strong>, Sir Vere Bird emerged as a powerful advocate for social and economic reforms. He led the Antigua Trades and Labour Union (ATLU), successfully improving workers’ conditions and wages during a period of significant inequality. His leadership extended to the founding of the Antigua Labour Party (ALP)<\/strong>, which became a major political force advocating for self-governance and independence.<\/p>
