Antigua and Barbuda was duly represented at the recently concluded 18th International Tourism Fair of Venezuela and the 6th ALBA-TCP Meeting of Ministers and High-level Authorities on Tourism which was held in Tachira, Venezuela.<\/p>

The six-member technical delegation from the Ministry of Tourism of Antigua and Barbuda was headed by Dr. Adelle Blair, Sustainable Tourism Officer. The other members of the delegation were Communications Officer Samoya Kirby, Tourism Officers Orlando Peters, Kessa Lake, Joyce Lindsay and Cruise Officer Mario Browne. The team participated in the Working Groups on Tourism which covered tourism, training and capacity building, civil aeronautics, marketing and promotion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To achieve the goals and tasks outlined in the 2030 ALBA-TCP Strategic Agenda for the promotion of tourism alliances in the region, the ALBA-TCP Ministers and High-level Authorities on Tourism met for the sixth time. The main focus was on \u201cmaking progress toward the consolidation of roadmap for activities related to the development of multi-destination products and a Tourism Brand for the Alliance to enhance the tourism industry in these countries as a tool for strengthening and advancing their economies.\u201d It was for this purpose that the working groups were established. Among the topics proposed by the working groups were regulations for tourism services, sustainable tourism and language training.<\/p>

Minister of Popular Tourism, the Hon. Leticia Gomez, hostess and Chief Organizer of the events, in delivering opening statements said that the event is a milestone for the touristic integration of ALBA members and presents itself as a unique opportunity to strengthen existing friendships. The Executive Secretary of ALBA, Mr. Jorge Arreaza, noted that the ALBA Bank stands ready to finance a number of proposed joint- projects including areas such as multi-destination marketing and the development of tourism infrastructure.<\/p>

Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s Head of Delegation Dr. Adelle Blair, in her statement at the round table of Ministers and High-level Authorities on Tourism assured the gathering of Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s commitment to the integration aspirations of the ALBA TCP and recommitted the nation\u2019s technical expertise in the field of tourism as a mature destination. Dr. Blair concluded her statement by underscoring that \u201cas the world changes we must change to more sustainable methods in our operations to ensure tourism\u2019s continued contribution our GDPs especially as the tourism sector is particularly vulnerable to climate change\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Withing Latin America and the Caribbean, the ten member countries form part of ALBAAntigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Cuba, Dominica, Grenada, Nicaragua, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, all of whom participated in the Meetings over the four days.<\/p>
