The government is also expanding healthcare services with assistance from international partners, signaling a renewed focus on tackling pressing health challenges.<\/p>

\u201cMy government is determined to ensure that the Cancer Centre is resuscitated and that services are again offered to the sick and afflicted right here in Antigua,\u201d Sir Rodney stated, emphasizing the critical need to address cancer care locally. He noted that the lack of operational services had caused many patients to seek treatment abroad, a costly and emotionally taxing endeavor for families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond the Cancer Centre, the government is undertaking a broader expansion of healthcare services. Plans include increasing the number of dialysis machines and creating additional treatment spaces at the old Holberton Hospital. This initiative aims to provide care for more patients suffering from chronic kidney diseases, an area of growing concern.<\/p>

To address cardiovascular health, a cardiology treatment center will also be established at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre. \u201cThe machines and the medical experts will help to save the lives of those who are afflicted with narrowing and clogged arteries that prevent the heart from working as it should,\u201d Sir Rodney said, underscoring the importance of addressing one of the nation\u2019s leading causes of premature death.<\/p>

These initiatives are being bolstered by partnerships with key international organizations, including the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the World Health Organization (WHO). \u201cEngaging the Medical Benefits Scheme to provide more resources and seeking assistance from our hemispheric neighbors and the World Health Organization have buoyed my government\u2019s efforts,\u201d Sir Rodney explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Governor General expressed gratitude to these partners for their ongoing support, noting their role in equipping Antigua and Barbuda with the tools and expertise needed to enhance healthcare services.<\/p>
