ABEC bids farewell to Commissioner <\/strong>Anthonyson<\/strong> King as a sterling tenure ends<\/strong><\/p>

The Antigua and Barbuda Electoral Commission (ABEC) bid farewell to long-standing Commissioner Mr.\u00a0Anthonyson\u00a0King on Wednesday, marking his last official working day before his tenure ends on Saturday, November 16, 2024, coinciding with his 75th birthday.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. King, who first joined the Commission on August 7, 2010, served two consecutive terms, dedicating 14 years to supporting Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s electoral process.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Reflecting on his time with ABEC, Mr. King, a lifelong educator, expressed his pride in the Commission\u2019s progress over the years. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

“This body works tirelessly to uphold democracy in Antigua and Barbuda. It\u2019s been a privilege to see how much the Commission has evolved since I joined. I\u2019m confident that it is in good hands going forward,” he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. King also spoke warmly of the many stalwarts and outstanding civil servants with whom he collaborated, noting that their shared commitment to advancing the nation\u2019s electoral integrity transcended any political divides. He expressed gratitude to his wife of nearly 50 years, Mrs. Cicely King, for her unwavering support, and to his family and friends for their encouragement throughout his tenure.<\/p>

During a special sitting held on Wednesday, November 13, ABEC\u2019s Chairman Ambassador Arthur G. B. Thomas praised Mr. King as an invaluable member of the Commission. “Having worked with Mr. King over the years, I can attest to his deep knowledge of the electoral process, his dedication, and his genuine connection with our team. He has been a motivational presence, consistently offering guidance and support. He will be sorely missed,” said Ambassador Thomas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deputy Chairman Eugene Francis described Mr. King as a \u201cman of the people\u201d who, despite any personal political views, approached his duties with impartiality and a welcoming demeanor, which fostered strong relationships within the Commission.<\/p>

Supervisor of Elections Mr. Ian S. Hughes commended Mr. King\u2019s contribution, calling him a source of knowledge and inspiration who leaves a lasting impact on the Commission.<\/p>
