The Ministry of Works says it will remove the popular welcome arch which has become an iconic\u00a0feature for visitors to the island.<\/p>

The arch on the Sir George Walter Highway will be removed today, the ministry said in a statmetment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Removal of the arch has become necessary so as to allow the ongoing road works<\/g> to continue, the ministry said.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Project Implementation Management Unit (PIMU),\nwhich is managing the Road Infrastructure Rehabilitation Project, has asked the\nministry to assist the unit in removing the arch as a matter of urgency. <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Director of Works Mr. Lucine Hanley said the road\nwill be closed on Monday 5th<\/sup> November from 10pm and reopen on 6am on\nTuesday 6th<\/sup> November. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Traffic will therefore be diverted through Barnes\nHill to 6am on Tuesday 6th<\/sup> November. The Powell\u2019s Main Road in the\nvicinity of TCM will be used as the diversion route.<\/p>

According to Hanley, the diversion route has been\nchecked to ensure that it is suitable for motorists to travel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that the time selected for the work to be\ncarried out was strategic so as to minimize inconvenience to road users. <\/p>

A team from the Government Workshop headed by Superintendent\nof Works, Mr. Selvin Harley will be removing the arch. It will be disassembled\nand stored in a secure place until the road work is completed. <\/p>

The Ministry of Works wishes to express its\nappreciation to the public for understanding the urgency in this matter and\napologizes for any inconvenience that this may cause. <\/p>\n
