Dr. Edmond Mansoor, a former long-serving member of the United Progressive Party (UPP), has shared his reasons for leaving the opposition and joining the ruling Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP). He expressed his disappointment with the current state of the UPP, describing it as a “mere shadow” of what it once was under the leadership of former Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer and Harold Lovell.<\/p>

Dr. Mansoor, who served in various capacities within the UPP over nearly four decades, highlighted the party’s divisive and toxic nature as significant factors in his decision to leave. He criticized the current leadership, stating they had strayed from the UPP’s original “people first” ethos and were now focused on self-interest. He also mentioned their failure to reposition and strengthen the party, leading to what he described as a leadership that is “toxic” and lacking the ability to move the party forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his critique, Dr. Mansoor pointed to character assassination tactics employed by the leadership, aimed at discrediting members who have departed the party, such as Hon. Anthony Smith and Benjamin For, among others. He concluded by stating that the leadership’s failure to fulfill its mandate had left the party in a state that he deemed “ungradable.”<\/p>
