Government Prepares Former Pan Am Base for Youth Offenders<\/p>

Government Spokesman Lionel “Max” Hurst has confirmed that plans are underway to repurpose the former Pan Am base into a secure facility for housing juvenile offenders. In a recent statement, Hurst emphasized the need to complete necessary renovations to prepare the facility to house boys currently incarcerated. The move aims to comply with regulations requiring minors to be held separately from adult inmates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are eager to ensure that they are separated from the institution in which they are now held,” Hurst said, noting that the number of incarcerated boys is currently small, with a maximum of four. He mentioned that some of these boys may have found households willing to accommodate them, reducing the need for long-term detention. However, a key challenge remains the risk of escape, which has posed additional problems for both the boys and society.<\/p>

The old Pan Am base will be outfitted to provide a secure environment that prevents escape while offering opportunities for rehabilitative work programs. Hurst highlighted that the facility could house up to 20 boys once fully operational.<\/p>

In addition, the government is nearing completion of the Boys’ Training School, with most internal work finished and furniture expected to arrive soon. Once ready, it will provide a more permanent solution for housing and rehabilitating young offenders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hurst reiterated the government’s commitment to keeping the number of incarcerated boys low, emphasizing the importance of proper rehabilitation and reintegration into society.<\/p>
