As we stand on the threshold of our 43rd Independence anniversary, I extend a heartfelt call to every citizen of Antigua and Barbuda: let us put aside all differences personal and political to forge a united and vibrant nation. We acknowledge that our shortcomings exist, as they do in any country, yet our collective achievements illuminate the path ahead and demonstrate our resilience. As one of the smallest Caribbean islands, Antigua and Barbuda sits at the global table with the big boys, and is a force to be reckoned with. \u201cBig up yuh chest!\u201d <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In just seven years, we will celebrate a monumental milestone… our 50th Independence anniversary. With this in mind, there is much work to be done. I invite all citizens, by birth or naturalized, on island or across the diaspora, to join hands in this important journey. We need all hands to the wheel, to propel our nation to become one that inspires others to follow our example. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let us place national pride above political allegiance and personal interests. While political affiliations are a personal choice, let us engage in constructive dialogue that uplifts rather than divides. Support whatever political party you choose, but do so without tearing each other down, and do so without letting the business of our country slip away. Our focus must remain on the collective good of our nation; we cannot afford to lose sight of our goals in the noise of partisan disputes.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

To all my fellow Caribbean brothers and sisters, as well as our friends from America, Britain, Canada, China, India, Syria, Lebanon, and all others who have chosen to make Antigua and Barbuda your home: your decision to reside here is a pledge of allegiance and a commitment to nation-building\u2014this nation, Antigua and Barbuda. Together, we create a future that reflects the best of our diverse backgrounds and shared aspirations; a paradise in which you have chosen to live, raise your children, and retire.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Fellow citizens, I task you with the greatest responsibility: personal accountability. We must rekindle the spirit of community, where we look out for our brothers and sisters. Let us reject elitism, classism, and discrimination. When we see wrongdoers, let us call them out regardless of class, creed, color or affiliation. There are more of us than them. Together, we are stronger than any division that seeks to weaken us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have the power to shape the future for the next generation. As the late Whitney Houston so beautifully said, \u201cI believe the children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way.<\/em>\u201d Let us nurture them with love and guidance, not criticism. Mek arwe show dem how the subben go.<\/p>

I commend BOTH past and present governments for the emphasis you have put on education, our greatest investment in the future. Thank you for making this a priority. I have seen the benefits our youth receive, and the impact it is making within our nation. Do not ease up; let us push harder to ensure our youth keep receiving the knowledge and skills they deserve\u2026 Apply more pressure! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To the current government: much work remains. We must hold the institutions with the greatest responsibilities in the land accountable. We must ensure these institutions operate with integrity and excellence within the realms of the judiciary, law enforcement, and public service. I applaud those who respect and carry out their duties with integrity and pride in these offices. However, to those who do not, change your ways, or you WILL be removed with the changing tide.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

To the private sector: your role is crucial in our nation\u2019s development. I call upon you to invest in our communities through corporate social responsibility. Offer scholarships, support healthcare initiatives, donate equipment and supplies, promote renewable energy and sustainable practices, and engage your employees in community service. Support local sports teams and encourage healthy lifestyles. There is a wealth of goods, skills, talent, and services available in Antigua and Barbuda. Let us partner and export them. Let us show the world exactly what Antigua and Barbuda has to offer.<\/p>

As we set our sights on the 50th anniversary, let this be our shared short-term goal\u2014a stepping stone toward a new era of progress, prosperity, health, and longevity for Antiguans and Barbudans. Together we stand; divided we fall. Let us not be our own undoing; instead, let us lift each other up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let us unite, work tirelessly, and build a future we can all be proud of. Together, we can achieve greatness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
