Prime Minister Gaston Browne has dismissed the Barbuda Council’s legal challenge to the Barbuda International Airport as “frivolous,” criticizing the Council’s opposition to the project. <\/p>

Speaking on Pointe FM over the weekend, Browne expressed confusion over the purpose of the lawsuit, stating that the airport structure is already built, and any attempts to halt or remove it through court orders are unrealistic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Now they have some kind of frivolous litigation before the court trying to, well I don’ t know what they are trying to do because I don’ t know any court going to give any judgment to go and destroy a rip -off a structure that’ s already built,” he told radio listeners.<\/p>

Earlier this year the Privy Council ruled that Barbuda residents Jacquline Frank and John Mussington do have standing to challenge the construction of the airport.<\/p>

Browne is now questioning the logic of the same Barbudans using the airport while publicly decrying its existence, suggesting that such critics should opt for other modes of transportation, such as taking boats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The same individuals who boycotted the airport\u2019s opening ceremony are now utilizing the facility to travel to and from Antigua,” Browne remarked, highlighting what he views as contradictory behavior by those opposing the development. Addressing concerns raised about the size of the airport’s facilities, the Prime Minister assured the public that the current buildings are temporary.<\/p>
