Prime Minister Browne Criticizes Barbuda Council for Failing to Cooperate<\/p>

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has criticized the Barbuda Council for their lack of cooperation after canceling a planned meeting with the government and failing to offer an alternative date. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Browne\u2019s remarks come in the wake of the council\u2019s initial proposal to engage the government in a more consultative and cooperative process, which the Prime Minister said his administration was open to.<\/p>

However, when a meeting was scheduled for last Thursday, the Barbuda Council canceled it, citing various reasons, and did not suggest any new dates to meet, despite the government proposing an alternative date for the following Tuesday. <\/p>

“They came up with a myriad of excuses why they cannot meet,” Browne said, expressing disappointment in their failure to follow through on their own initiative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Browne suggested that the council may be realizing that their “irresponsible rhetoric” is losing its effectiveness, which could explain their reluctance to meet.<\/p>

He also accused the council of trying to take credit for government projects, such as road development, while simultaneously acting as obstructionists by not engaging in the consultative process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“You can\u2019t have it both ways,” Browne stated, emphasizing that genuine cooperation would allow the council to share in the credit for developmental achievements. He criticized the council for attempting to appear cooperative while blocking progress, calling this a “mutually exclusive” position.<\/p>

The Prime Minister called on the Barbuda Council to reconsider their approach, urging them to stop playing political games and work towards the benefit of their constituents. <\/p>
