During a political meeting Thursday night’s, UPP leader Jamale Pringle took aim at the soaring electricity bills faced by citizens, accusing the government of financial mismanagement and failing to provide stable, affordable energy. Pringle criticized the Labour Party for implementing a 40-day billing cycle, which he described as a \u201cfinancial gimmick\u201d that has unfairly burdened citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur electricity bills are through the roof, yet power outages are a regular occurrence,\u201d Pringle said. \u201cThis government has raised your electricity bills by extending the billing cycle, not because of a glitch, but as a deliberate move to raise more money to cover their financial mismanagement.\u201d<\/p>

Pringle also pointed to the government\u2019s failure to fully implement renewable energy solutions. \u201cWe have two solar farms in Antigua and Barbuda, yet we\u2019re still waiting on the batteries that would allow us to fully benefit from solar energy. The people of this country paid for those batteries in full, but where are they?\u201d he asked.<\/p>

He promised that a UPP government would prioritize renewable energy and make it more affordable for citizens. \u201cWith the right investment, Antigua and Barbuda could rely on solar energy for most of its power. We could reduce the fuel variation charge and lower the cost of electricity for everyone. This is what responsible governance looks like.\u201d<\/p>\n
