Starting January 1, 2025, businesses will be charged a $10 daily fee for garbage collection, part of an effort to improve finances at the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA). <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Chairman Michael Joseph noted that although garbage collection for businesses in St. John’s is not NSWMA’s responsibility, they have been handling it for health and safety reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The policy, originally proposed in 2015, aims to generate an additional $100,000 to $120,000 in monthly revenue for the authority, which currently operates at a deficit.<\/p>
