Speaking at a reception in his honor on Monday night, attended by government officials, members of the Indian diaspora, and students who received Indian scholarships, Margherita highlighted the value of enhancing people-to-people connections to strengthen bilateral relations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He proposed easing visa procedures and facilitating mobility partnerships to remove travel-related procedural hurdles between the two countries. “We look forward to working closely with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda towards this end, providing further impetus to tourism, trade, and people-to-people partnerships,” he stated.<\/p>

Margherita expressed confidence that the friendly relations between the people of India and Antigua and Barbuda would continue to flourish. He also recalled the historical migration of Indians to the Caribbean during British colonial rule, where they worked on sugar plantations and contributed to the region\u2019s unique blend of cultures.<\/p>

“This is a symbol of unity in diversity, as we see Indian influence in the cuisine, music, and other cultural aspects that define the Caribbean as a melting pot of different civilizations,” Margherita said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further noted the shared passion for cricket, which serves as another link between the two nations. <\/p>

Margherita acknowledged the admiration Indians have for West Indian cricket legends such as Sir Vivian Richards, Sir Andy Roberts, Sir Richie Richardson, Sir Curtly Ambrose, and Courtney Walsh. Sir Curtly, Sir Andy, and Walsh were in attendance at the reception.<\/p>\n
