The National Multi-Hazard Early Warning System is\nexpected to be in full swing for the 2019 hurricane season.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s according to Director of the National Office of\nDisaster Services (NODS) Philmore Mullin, who was speaking at a meeting Friday\nof major stakeholders to officially launch the system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mullin says the system has been installed and is\noperational but needs to be populated with the various messages. He adds that\nthe process will be a long one that will involve training, re-training,\ncertification and re-certification.<\/p>

The meeting was attended by Minister of Social Transformation,\nHuman Resource Development, Youth and Gender Affairs, Permanent Secretaries in\nthe Ministry, representatives from CDEMA and local partners.<\/p>

Minister Marshall says the Ministry is fully committed\nand supportive of the full implementation of this process and arrangements will\nbe made shortly to brief all of the Permanent Secretaries to ensure there is\npublic sector buy-in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deputy Executive Director of the Caribbean Disaster\nEmergency Management Agency (CDEMA) Elizabeth Riley spoke on the importance of sustaining\nthe conversation on early warning systems.\n\nAmong the players in\nthe establishment of the National Multi-Hazard Early Warning System are the\nWorld Bank, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the International\nRed Cross and Red Crescent Society, CDEMA and NODS. \n\n\n\n<\/p>
