T<\/strong>he Gaston Browne administration\u00a0 says\u00a0 it still owns cruise facilities here despite a multimillion-dollar agreement with Global Ports.<\/p>

The agreement confirmed last week is being described as a Public\/Private Partnership between the Government and Global Ports in the management of the cruise port.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It includes the financing of the fifth cruise pier to accommodate the OASIS Class vessels and additional investments aimed at improving the shopping and other entertainment amenities for the disembarking cruise passenger in and around Heritage Quay. <\/p>

“It is completely false that the Government will not be the owner of the assets any longer,”\u00a0 a government statment<\/g>\u00a0said.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

“The Government will remain the owner at all times, the Prime Minister remarked, and anyone who speaks of privatization by the alienation of the cruise port is merely creating mischief,” the statement added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Global Ports will invest more than US$125 million dollars in the Harbour and at Fort James.<\/p>

The arrangements that have not yet been finalized are intended to ensure that the private firm can recover its investment while the state remains the owner of the assets.<\/p>\n
