Rethinking Rum : Antigua and Barbuda presence in Building Sustainable Futures for the Global Industry<\/u><\/strong>:<\/p>

The 13 September 2024 marked an exciting day in Geneva for the Antigua and Barbuda community in Switzerland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indeed, the Mission of Antigua and Barbuda to the United Nations Office and other international organization had the privilege to participate in the \u201cRethinking Rum initiative: Building Sustainable Futures for the Global Industry\u201d at the World Trade Organization (WTO), where they were able to showcase the culture and beauties of the country and, of course, the Rum!<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

This session not only aimed the various ways that global rum industries could contribute to sustainable development, economic growth and cultural preservation, it provided other fellow WTO missions to experience and try rum from all across the world, mainly from the Caribbean. The different booths held different food and drinks, with even a rum competition taking place.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Under the watchful eye of H.E. Boris Latour, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Antigua and Barbuda to the United Nations Office in Geneva and H.E. Colin Murdoch, Ambassador and Permanent Observer of the OECS to the United Nations Offices in Geneva, the Mission made out of the Deputy Permanent Representative Timoth\u00e9e Bauer and the Third Secretary Aya Raphael was able to successfully navigate through the event smoothly and positively, receiving praise from many of their fellow colleagues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The land of 365 beaches indeed had a lot to offer and the Mission surely was able to portray it. With the help of Antigua Limited Distillery\u2019s own Jonathan Almonte Felix, who sponsored the event, the Mission served the infamous English Harbour rum, one of the many local jewels of Antigua and Barbuda. <\/p>

Furthermore, the Mission presented two rum at the competition, the English Harbour Five Year Rum in the category aged up to six years and English Harbour 10-year Reserve Rum in the category six up to ten years. Antigua and Barbuda emerged victorious as English Harbour was placed first in the category six up to ten years, a win anticipated despite being up against strong contenders!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tasting was accompanied by a selection of Caribbean and Latin American cuisine, alongside traditional music and dances, exposing proudly our beautiful culture. <\/p>

The occasion also provided an opportunity for Antigua Limited Distillery to present its rum chocolate, which offers a new approach to rum. Not accessible yet in the European market, the Mission showed off this novelty that truly was a hit as it embraced the culture of both Antigua and Barbuda and the host country, Switzerland. After all, chocolate and rum? What could be more pleasent?<\/p>
