Monroe College, a national leader in educating first-generation and international students with campuses in New York and Saint Lucia, proudly announced today that it achieved university status and is now Monroe University.<\/p>

\u201cToday\u2019s announcement is more than 90 years in the making,\u201d said Marc Jerome, President of Monroe University. \u201cAchieving university status is a testament to the strength of our broad academic offerings and excellent outcomes, and a positive reflection of our warm, supportive learning environment where students can reach their full potential.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Proud History with Antigua and Barbuda<\/strong><\/p>

Monroe University has a proud history with the people of Antigua and Barbuda. Nearly six dozen students from the country have enrolled at Monroe since Fall 2023.<\/p>

Through a partnership with the Ministry of Education, Monroe is proud to offer scholarships to eligible students who are interested in pursuing undergraduate programs at Monroe. Monroe\u2019s graduating class traditionally represents students from more than 50 countries. Students from Antigua and Barbuda have been well represented among the graduates in recent years. Their country\u2019s flag never fails to receive some of the loudest cheers as it is proudly carried into Radio City Music Hall for the International Parade of Flags at Commencement.<\/p>

Monroe University extends its deepest gratitude to the Ministry of Education and the local high schools for their wonderful support and partnership in helping students from Antigua and Barbuda achieve their higher education dreams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monroe University began in 1933, when teacher Mildred King established the Monroe Secretarial School in the West Farms section of the Bronx. In 1963, the institution\u2019s name was changed to Monroe Business Institute as offerings expanded. In 1972, Monroe became a junior college after it was authorized to grant associate degrees and became Monroe College following initial accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education in July 1990.<\/p>

Today, the institution is recognized for its impact as a leader in educating first-generation students and others who have been traditionally under-represented and underserved across college campuses nationwide. Monroe, distinguished by the strong diversity of its faculty and staff, is consistently ranked among New York\u2019s leading institutions for graduating Black and Hispanic students and is recognized for its strong impact on graduates\u2019 social mobility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monroe University is proud of its stability of leadership that has served the institution well, providing a consistent vision; a warm, personal campus culture; and high standards for academic and professional excellence across the institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Founded in 1933, Monroe University is a recognized leader in urban and international education. The University is proud of its innovative programs to increase college access, affordability, and completion outcomes, especially among first-generation students, and for the national recognition it receives for its strong impact on graduates\u2019 social mobility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Programs are offered through Schools of Allied Health Professions, Business and Accounting, Criminal and Social Justice, Education, Hospitality Management, Information Technology, and Nursing, as well as through its King Graduate School.
