SOURCE DNO: A controversial Trinidadian Dancehall artist, who has been banned from performing in several Caribbean islands, will not be performing as scheduled at a show in Dominica.<\/p>

Kman6ixx, whose real name is Kashif Alexander Sankar, was expected to perform at Fete Fwadi in Bellevue on September 7 but organizers announced on Tuesday, September 3, that this is no longer the case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDue to National Security concerns, the organizers of Fete Fwadi would like to announce the withdrawal of Trinidadian-based artist Kman6xxx from the line-up of the event,\u201d they said in the statement.<\/p>

\u201cThe organizers did not foresee any challenges when booking and announcing the artist and would like to apologize to the many fans who may have purchased tickets in anticipation of seeing Kman6xxx perform.\u201d<\/p>

The organizers confirmed that Jamaican Dancehall\/Reggae artiste, Malie Donn, will be performing in his place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe organizers of Fete Fwadi are all about solutions and your satisfaction is very important to us,\u201d they said. \u201cWe have worked speedily and we\u2019re pleased to announce that we have successfully negotiated and confirmed the booking of major Jamaican artist MALIE DONN as replacement for Kman.\u201d<\/p>

The show organizers did not specify or explain what they meant by \u201cnational security concerns,\u201d however the withdrawal of Kman6ixx from performing in Dominica does not come as a surprise, since he has been banned from performing or has been denied entry into several Caribbean islands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month he was not allowed to enter Antigua mere hours before he was scheduled to perform at a show with immigration officials citing \u201cnational security concerns.\u201d Despite numerous efforts by organizers, Kman6ixx was not permitted to pass through the immigration checkpoint.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

In February this year, a concert in St Kitts, where Kman6ixx was scheduled to perform, was canceled after he was denied entry with the police citing \u201csecurity risks.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe security assessment identified within the artist\u2019s work explicit endorsements of violence; promotion of criminal activities; and a consistent glorification of gang life,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Royal St Christopher (St Kitts) and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) said in a statement after the cancellation. \u201cThe performance restriction on Kman 6ixx aligns with the RSCNPF\u2019s ongoing efforts to ensure that artists whose performances and content may pose security risks are not permitted to perform within the country. The meticulous evaluation of the potentially negative impact on public order and safety bolsters our decision.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also earlier this year, he was reportedly blocked from traveling to Guyana where he was scheduled to perform at a concert. Although he did not mention the artist\u2019s name, President of Guyana, Dr. Irfaan Ali, said an artist was blocked from traveling to Guyana because he was on an \u201cInterpol red list.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An Interpol red list is issued, according to the international crime-fighting organization, \u201cfor fugitives wanted either for prosecution or to serve a sentence in relation to serious ordinary law crimes such as murder, rape, and fraud.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month, Kman6ixx was banned from entering The Bahamas resulting in the cancellation of a concert at the Bahamas National Stadium. The Royal Bahamas Police Force said the ban was due to the artist\u2019s \u201cgang affiliation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kman6ixx is well-known to law enforcement in Trinidad. He survived two shooting incidents in 2023, which have been described as \u2018murder attempts.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first one took place in October when he was shot and injured by assailants. In December, he was again shot after he landed at the Piarco International Airport following a performance in Barbados.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Trinidad Daily Express, in February 2024, he was arrested and slapped with two gang-related charges and was granted $40,000 bail with a surety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The newspaper reported that he \u201cwas charged with offenses under the Anti-Gang Act 4 of 2021\u2014namely being a gang member contrary to Section 5 (1)(b) of the Act; and professing to being a gang member contrary to Section 5(1)(d) of the Act.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kman6ixx\u2019s arrest followed a months-long investigation into his activities \u201cduring which time he was observed singing and using expressive gestures in videos that seemingly incited violence and promoted the Sixx gang, accompanied by his alleged self-professed affiliation as a gang member to intimidate the public,\u201d the Trinidad Daily Express reported, quoting a police press statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In January 2024, the artist acknowledged the presence of of gangster themes in his music but vowed to clean up his act saying his overseas performances do not promote violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI really fed-up of it,\u201d he told Grenadian talk show host and journalist, Calistra Farrier. \u201cEverybody on me, the police, everybody on me for lyrics\u2026 it\u2019s just too much\u2026So I could really tone that back and dial down and I can assure you that 2024 will be a positive year.\u201d<\/p>\n
