90-Year Old Author Completes First Leg of Her Book Tour

After the release of her book \u201cMirie\u2019s Magic Recipe: Loving, Leading Legacy,\u201d which is a memoir of her life, Miriam Samuel embarked on her \u201cLegacy Book Tour\u201d to promote her book. Accompanied by two of her granddaughters she returned to Anguilla, the land of her birth, 86 years after her family migrated to Antigua.

The tour gave readers an opportunity to virtually experience some of the major settings in the book via social media. Miriam also shared her passion, knowledge and life lessons on Radio Anguilla and Klass FM.
\u00a0
The author connected with Anguillian genealogist Dr. Timothy Hodge to research her family tree by reviewing historical records, maps, and by tapping into the local folklore. She visited the renovated Court House which is the only remaining 18th century Government building on the island.\u00a0 As she ascended the steps of this historic building Mirie felt like she was \u201cwalking in her ancestors\u2019 footsteps.\u201d

Another highlight of Grandma Mirie\u2019s trip was a cooking class with award winning chef Kelston Connor.\u00a0\u00a0They prepared local and international dishes and discussed how the island\u2019s food history has evolved as a fusion of cultures, one of the hallmarks of Anguilla\u2019s cuisine. She also visited local gardens, farms and churches to better understand what life was like for her ancestors.\u00a0

The \u201cLegacy Book Tour\u201d culminated with a book signing event at Coral Reef Bookstore and an official visit to meet Anguilla\u2019s Premier, Hon. Ellis Lorenzo Webster. Mirie also donated a copy of her book to the Anguilla\u00a0Public Library so that her literary work can add to the narrative about the resilience and determination of the people of Anguilla.

\u201cIt was a joy to take my readers and followers on a virtual tour to experience my story on a deeper level. I headed to Anguilla with a bucket list of things that I wanted to do and returned with a barrel filled with treasured memories. I met a 90-year old childhood friend and we shared common stories from our parents. I hope that my book will inspire others to reconnect with their roots and to make those critical connections that will help tell their story,\u201d Mirie said.<\/p>

The Legacy Book Tour continues in September when Mirie will head to the United Kingdom to be honored at two separate events in England and Wales.

A veteran teacher for 40 years, Miriam Samuel taught in nine schools in four parishes in Antigua. As an avid gardener, she has created more than 90 agri-products that offer a sense of nostalgia through flavors, aromas and medicinal properties. These include food, beverages, essential oils, soaps, confectionery and nutritional supplements.

Miriam\u2019s book provides a delightful narrative of her experiences as an ordinary woman who has lived an extraordinary life filled with trials and triumphs.\u00a0
