The government<\/g>\u00a0has committed one million dollars in resources to boost the operations of the\u00a0 Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force (ABDF).<\/p>

The ABDF provided Cabinet with a report which it called \u201cA Military Review\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Such a review is compelled by the 1981 Defense Act and its 2006 Amendment. <\/p>

A government statement said the ABDF Coast Guard requires more vessels and more trained personnel in order to fill the pressing defence<\/g> needs of the nation.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

“Though a decision had been taken to fill the vacancies created by attrition, the ABDF reported that its force has shrunk, causing many soldiers to work many hours per week. The Cabinet pledged to free-up $1,000,000 dollars in resources in order to meet many of the justifiable expectations of the ABDF,” the statement added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It said collaboration<\/g> with OECS countries under the RSS Treaty and the traditional allies was also taken into account in strengthening defense and security.<\/p>

The Cabine also agreed that a greenhouse will be contributed by the Ministry of Agriculture to the ABDF for the development of certain skills, the production of agricultural products for consumption, and to make use of vacant land at Crabbes Peninsula.<\/p>\n
