(Department of Environment Completes Water Tank Distribution to Preschools as Part of Climate Awareness Initiative)<\/p>

The Department of Environment (DOE) is pleased to announce the successful completion of a key initiative under the Technology Needs Assessment Project, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented through the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This initiative was a culmination of the DOE\u2019s efforts to engage local communities in climate change awareness. As the Technology Needs Assessment Project drew to a close, the DOE launched a climate change awareness competition aimed at gathering valuable feedback from the public. In collaboration with local preschools, survey respondents were given the opportunity to select a preschool to be awarded a climate technology as an incentive for their participation.<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The two preschools chosen through this initiative, Beacon Light Nazarene and Deanery Lane Preschools, were each awarded a 1,000-gallon water tank. However, due to logistical challenges, the delivery of these prizes took some time to be finalized. The DOE is pleased to confirm that all issues have now been resolved, and the final tank was successfully delivered on Monday, August 19, 2024. To ensure the longevity and proper use of these tanks, concrete bases were also constructed at each location.<\/p>

The water tanks will serve as vital resources for the preschools, helping to improve their resilience to water shortages and contributing to the broader goals of environmental sustainability and climate adaptation within the community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

St Johns Catholic Primary preschool, Green Bay preschool and 11 Hour Sunshine preschool previously received water machines, and Sir Luther Wyner Preschool received LED bulbs as a result of the competition<\/p>

The Technology Needs Assessment Project has been instrumental in creating a Technology Action Plan for the Buildings, Water, and Transport sectors, which the DOE is currently utilizing to develop future projects in alignment with Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). This initiative underscores the DOE\u2019s commitment to enhancing climate resilience and promoting sustainable development across the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
