The Black Girl In The Ring Foundation is a new initiative in Antigua that will largely invest in the education and skill sets of girls. The Foundation was birthed from Writer, Entrepreneur and Founder Linisa George\u2019s long-term commitment to inspiring women and girls.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Established in 2013, The Black Girl In The Ring brand was created as a platform to uplift through the shared stories of the diverse experiences of black girls and women both locally and global<\/g>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As such, the Black Girl In The Ring Foundation will concentrate most of its efforts on educating girls through partnerships with governmental, non-governmental organisations<\/g>, non-profits and<\/g> community groups, as well as regional and international entities.<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n\n\n\n

While the Foundation\u2019s overall mission is a large undertaking, the primary focus over the next year will mainly be the roll-out of two major projects.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Project\nPUSH is a scholarship initiative that will fund pre-school and primary school\ntuition, and school meals, for girls from low socio-economic households living\nin Clare Hall and Cassada Gardens, which is the community Linisa grew up in. These\nscholarships will be provided for successful recipients to attend the Christian\nUnion Pre & Junior Academy, a private pre and primary school located in\nClare Hall. During its first two years, Project PUSH will seek to award\nscholarships to ten girls to attend the Academy, while also funding the\npurchase of important learning tools and materials required for the education\nof teen girls attending the Clare Hall Secondary School. All Project PUSH\nscholarships and funding are awarded through a needs-based assessment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One\nparent, whose 8-year-old daughter was the first recipient of the scholarship\nfor the 2018\/2019 school year, has already expressed her gratitude for the much\nneeded support. She says, \u201cI am very grateful to the Foundation for the work\nthey are doing and for choosing my daughter to start their sponsorship. I am so\ngrateful to know that my daughter\u2019s education is well looked after and secured\nfor the remainder of the school year. The support is definitely a blessing.\u201d Camelda\nMichael, Early Childhood Educator and Principal of the Christian Union Junior\nAcademy, also conveyed her appreciation to the Foundation, \u201cLet me express a heartfelt\nthank you for your assistance, and I look forward to more of your efforts\ntowards educating girls in the community.\u201d <\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

As\npart of scholarship recipients\u2019 personal and academic development, the\nFoundation will also be extending their assistance to fund extra-circular\nactivities such as dance classes, sports, music lessons and after school\nclasses. In a recent interview on ABS\u2019s Antigua Barbuda Today, Linisa shared her\nintentions to provide support to the parents of scholarship recipients. She\nremarked, \u201cWe couldn\u2019t just pay for these young women\u2019s education and end it\nthere. We intend to ensure the family setting provides the fundamental tools of\nlove and time needed to help nurture the girls\u2019 limitless potential. In cases\nwhere the home may fall short of providing that, we will step in to provide the\nsupport they require, as guardians, to ensure they are playing a pivotal role\nin care-giving.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nFoundation\u2019s second initiative, which will be launched in early 2019, is\nProject LIGHT. This programme will focus on empowering girls and boys, ages 11\nto 17, through comprehensive sexual health and wellness workshops. The\nFoundation facilitated series of creative and interactive workshops will equip\nparticipants with the information needed to make positive and healthy\ndecisions, build self-esteem, promote respect for oneself and others, and help\nto craft their individual voices.<\/p>

All\nof the Black Girl In The Ring Foundation\u2019s projects and initiatives will be\noverseen by its Executive Board of Directors, who will also be tasked with\nimplementing the foundation’s 5-year strategic plan. A few local corporate\ncompanies as well as regional and international entities have already pledged\nfunding, while individuals who live on island can make donations to the\nFoundation via cash payments or checks payable to the \u2018Christian Union Pre\n& Junior Academy\u2019. Persons living overseas can utilize the online options\nby sending their donations via PayPal to blackgirlinthering@gmail.com<\/a>\nor pledging via the Black Girl In The Ring GoFundMe page \u2018Project PUSH\u2019. <\/p>

It\nis the Foundation\u2019s hope that in the near future it will be able to extend\nProject PUSH to other communities in Antigua, and administer, upon request,\nProject LIGHT workshops to community groups, schools and churches.
