As the father of a teenage\u00a0daughter,\u00a0 I have had the distinct\u00a0pleasure\u00a0or the unfortunate role as some might\u00a0 say,\u00a0 \u00a0of having\u00a0to go to the supermarket\u00a0or pharmacy\u00a0to buy sanitary\u00a0napkins or pads as we generally call them, for her.\u00a0 \u00a0I was and still am shocked\u00a0at the cost for them and even moreso,\u00a0 given that\u00a0it is a commodity that\u00a0women and girls\u00a0must use monthly..<\/p>

.Menstruation is a natural phenomenon for every young girl and adult woman and sanitary pads are a basic necessity of life.. The lack of affordability is making it difficult for girls, especially school girls and young unemployed women.  to buy and use them<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many school girls and unemployed young women are sometimes forced because of the lack of financial resources to find less than healthy ways to “”pad-up” during their monthly cycle.<\/p>

\u00a0There are\u00a0 health implications for girls and young women who resort to the use of unhygienic menstrual products because sanitary pads are so expensive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All sanitary  pads should be made affordable, accessible, and available to enable women and girls not to miss out on any educational and economic activities during their menstrual cycle.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Several studies have shown that  a good number of school girls from poor families  face great challenges to access the sanitary pads thus hampering their educational pursuits.    <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am calling\u00a0on the Government to ensure\u00a0that all taxes and duties,\u00a0 \u00a0import and otherwise are completely removed from all women’s sanitary products thereby ensuring\u00a0 a measure\u00a0of\u00a0 tax justice that does not cause a financial burden on poor women and girls\u00a0 who have to put up\u00a0 with the cost of buying\u00a0pads for such a long period of their\u00a0lives and at such exorbitant prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
