Deposit Made on Alfa Nero Super Yacht, PM Confirms Sale<\/strong><\/p>

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has confirmed that a deposit has been made on the Alfa Nero super yacht, which is being sold for $40 million. The sale, managed by Port Manager Darwin Telemaque, includes a 4.5% broker’s fee. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Browne disclosed this information in response to a question from Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle in Parliament’s Lower House this morning.<\/p>

“I can confirm that a deposit was made on the Alfa Nero, and we are now awaiting the final proceeds, after which we will issue a public statement confirming the amounts paid, the buyer, and how the proceeds will be distributed,” Browne stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Browne also highlighted the successful negotiation with the law firm handling the bill of sale and other negotiations, reducing the fee from the usual 1% to a few hundred thousand USD. <\/p>

He refuted claims of exorbitant legal fees and commissions to local agents, calling such notions “totally untrue.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Prime Minister clarified that the new buyer has been granted future indemnification against any potential liabilities arising from the vessel. <\/p>

He also stated that he was unaware of any warrant of arrest against the Alfa Nero.<\/p>

Addressing concerns about judgments and debts, Browne said, “We have taken steps to settle all legitimate debts associated with the Alfa Nero.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He explained that the sale was conducted under a private treaty managed by the port manager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Browne revealed that initial auction bids for the Alfa Nero had decreased by $30 million, but a new buyer emerged, offering significantly more than the previous bids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“In light of the various risks, we decided to seize the opportunity to sell the Alfa Nero. The best offer to date has been accepted,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further noted that the vessel was depreciating rapidly and emphasized that the proceeds from the sale would be sufficient to recover all the expenses the government had incurred on the yacht.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
