Yesterday, Prime Minister Gaston Browne provided an update on the final preparations for the opening of the Barbuda Airport during his appearance on Pointe FM. <\/p>

“All the other boxes have been ticked,” Browne stated.<\/p>

“They’ve installed a weather station and a backup system with cloud technology to ensure data is securely stored in case of a hurricane. The only outstanding issue is the final training of the fire officers to use the specific equipment.”<\/p>

Browne confirmed that an expert will provide the necessary training and that the government has taken measures to facilitate this process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I’ve instructed the Attorney General to ensure the fire chief starts the training on Monday. We have also arranged for accommodation in Barbuda and assured that the government will cover the expenses.”<\/p>

In addition to the fire officer training, the Prime Minister announced several measures to bolster government presence and services in Barbuda. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cabinet has approved the employment of five immigration officers and five customs officers to enhance operations at the airport. Furthermore, the number of police officers on the island will be significantly increased to match the growing development.<\/p>

“We have also ordered a new fire truck for Barbuda,” Browne added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The fire engine has been sourced and is ready for manufacturing. It will be sent over within a matter of weeks.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With these final preparations underway, Prime Minister Browne expressed confidence that the Barbuda Airport would be operational very soon, enhancing the island’s infrastructure and supporting its continued growth and development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
