ECCB Commemorates\u00a048\u00a0Years of EC Dollar Peg<\/strong><\/p>

After 48 years of being pegged to the US Dollar at a fixed rate of EC$2.70 to US$1.00,\u00a0the EC Dollar remains strong and stable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), Timothy N. J. Antoine says the strength and stability of the EC Dollar is a tremendous source of pride for the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union.<\/p>

The EC\u00a0Dollar was first pegged to the US Dollar\u00a0on 7 July 1976.\u00a0Governor\u00a0Antoine\u00a0says\u00a0the value of the\u00a0EC Dollar 48 years ago in terms of parity,\u00a0is the same 48 years later.

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt gives confidence to the people of our currency union,\u201d Antoine said. He\u00a0added\u00a0that investors can also invest and receive their investments,\u00a0and repatriate freely.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Governor stressed that\u00a0the peg\u00a0is a wonderful\u00a0achievement which\u00a0should never be taken for granted.\u00a0

He added that\u00a0whilethere was a spike coming out of the pandemic, over the\u00a0past\u00a048years,\u00a0inflation has been\u00a0relatively low\u00a0because of the stability of the peg.\u00a0Governor Antoine noted that\u00a0some countries did not experience\u00a0that stability.<\/p>\n
