href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/07\/01\/weather\/hurricane-beryl-caribbean-landfall-monday\/index.html\">catastrophic Category 5 storm<\/a>, has set its sights on Jamaica after leaving at least one person dead and inflicting ruin across entire islands in the Caribbean on Monday.<\/p><div id=\"antig-3129229847\" class=\"antig-content_5 antig-entity-placement\"><a impact the Cayman Islands on Thursday, where a hurricane watch has been issued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The storm continues to smash records as it kicks off an exceptionally early hurricane season as the earliest Category 5 hurricane \u2013 and only the second Atlantic storm of such strength to be recorded in July. Beryl alarming strengthening has been fed by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/06\/13\/weather\/el-nino-la-nina-summer-forecast-climate\/index.html\">abnormally warm ocean Many trees have collapsed on power lines. At least 20 vessels have sunken, Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley said Monday. But the Indian team is likely to make its way home Tuesday after the airport\u2019s planned reopening, Mottley said.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"kicking-off-a-far-from-normal-hurricane-season\">Kicking off a far from normal hurricane season<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Beryl has shattered numerous records and is a troubling indicator that this season will be&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/06\/13\/weather\/el-nino-la-nina-summer-forecast-climate\/index.html\">far from normal<\/a>&nbsp;in a world warming due to fossil fuel pollution.
