Prime Minister Gaston Browne announced on Pointe FM this Saturday a significant $40 million investment aimed at revitalizing the yachting sector and enhancing cultural heritage in English Harbour. <\/p>

The project, a combination of equity and borrowings, is set to address crucial repairs and expansion within the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are committed to making about $40 million available to undertake necessary repairs and expand the yachting facilities in English Harbour,\u201d stated Prime Minister Browne. <\/p>

\u201cThis investment is crucial to maintaining our position as a leading yachting destination in the Caribbean.\u201d<\/p>

This initiative is not solely about infrastructural improvements but also about creating a vibrant cultural park. This facility will serve as a hub for artisans and individuals in the cultural space to showcase and sell their products to tourists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The park will likely feature historical reenactments and provide a unique cultural experience, aiming to enrich the tourism product.<\/p>

Additionally, the project includes the restoration of the historic barracks. While acknowledging the painful history associated with these structures, Prime Minister Browne emphasized their value as part of the country’s cultural heritage. <\/p>

The expansion also addresses the inadequacies in the current yachting infrastructure. Despite being one of the largest yachting sectors in the Caribbean, English Harbour has struggled to accommodate the increasing demand. The new facilities will help meet this demand, potentially allowing the harbor to welcome super yachts that were previously turned away due to space constraints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn the last season, we had to turn away several super yachts because of inadequate facilities,\u201d said Browne. \u201cThis expansion will enable us to accommodate these vessels and boost our tourism industry significantly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
