Antigua and Barbuda\u2019s Ambassador to the United States, Sir Ronald Sanders, has flatly rejected as false a story written by blogger Ken Rijock on his website which claims that a letter was delivered to Prime Minister Gaston Browne \u201cby an American official\u201d while he was at the UN General Assembly last week.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

According to the Rijock story: \u201cInsiders in Antigua report that it (the letter) contained a direct threat to sever Antigua\u2019s financial institutions from the American financial structure\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ambassador Sanders said that he personally called Mr Rijock to dismiss the story which Mr Rijock says came \u201cfrom sources in Antigua\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

Sir Ronald said, \u201cNot only was no letter delivered to Prime Minister Browne by any US official, but US State Department officers confirmed to me in a meeting today their utter dismay at the story, saying that no such letter was even under their consideration\u201d.<\/p>

The Ambassador named the US State Department officials with whom he spoke as Kenneth Merten, the Acting Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, Katherine Duffy Dueholm, the Director, Office of Caribbean Affairs, US State Department, and Mark Bland, the Desk Officer for the Eastern Caribbean at the State Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saying that his regular bilateral meeting with the US State Department officials had been arranged long before the publication of the false information contained in Mr Rijock\u2019s blog, Ambassador Sanders disclosed that he raised it and the story was completely rejected.<\/p>
