(AFP) \u2014 A UK court on Thursday jailed a man for removing without consent a condom that he was wearing during sex, in what London\u2019s Metropolitan Police called a \u201cmilestone\u201d legal case.<\/p>

Guy Mukendi, 39, of south London, was sentenced to four years and three months in prison after being convicted in April, the London force said.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

He had been arrested in May last year following a report of sexual assault made by a young woman in Brixton, south London.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Met, as the capital\u2019s police force is known, said the woman had consented to have sex with Mukendi on condition that a condom was used.<\/a><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

But during sex, he removed the condom without the victim\u2019s knowledge.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Non-consensual condom removal \u2014 sometimes referred to as \u201cstealthing\u201d \u2014 is classified as rape in England and Wales.<\/a><\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Met said such prosecutions are \u201cvery rare\u201d due to under-reporting but that they are dedicated to pursuing \u201cjustice\u201d for victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis milestone case comes as the Met continues its pledge to be more suspect-focused in their approach to crimes that disproportionately affect women and girls,\u201d the force said in a statement detailing the prosecution.<\/p>

Mukendi was found guilty on April 2 at Inner London Crown Court, and was sentenced at the same court on Thursday.<\/p>

\u201cThroughout this investigation Mukendi denied any wrongdoing \u2014 but our officers built a compelling case against him to leave no doubt in the jury\u2019s mind,\u201d said Detective Constable Jack Earl, who led the investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe were dedicated to securing justice for the victim and will continue to raise awareness that this crime is a form of rape.\u201d<\/p>\n
