ABHTA Awards Culinary Scholarships to Budding Young Junior Chefs<\/strong><\/p>

Antigua and Barbuda, Tuesday June 4, 2024<\/strong> \u2013 Inspired by the recent Taste of Wadadli Junior Chef Cook-Off Competition and the remarkable talent and skills displayed by young culinary students, the Antigua & Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association has awarded culinary scholarships to four outstanding students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three students currently in their final year of High School will each receive a full two-year scholarship to the Antigua and Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute all sponsored by the ABHTA\u2019s Tourism Development Fund (TDF).<\/p>

Scholarship recipients are Azarie Crump from Saint Joseph’s Academy<\/strong>, Shemiah Francis from All Saints Secondary School<\/strong>, and Gregoryann Thomas from Sir McChesney George Secondary School<\/strong>. Additionally, Ashauny Rattary of the Antigua State College <\/strong>will receive funding towards his studies in Food Science at the University of the West Indies, Mona in Jamaica.<\/p>

These scholarships valued at almost EC$30,000 are made possible through the ABHTA\u2019s Tourism Development Fund contributed by Hermitage Bay, Blue Waters Resort & Spa, Curtain Bluff, Copper and Lumber Store Hotel and Jumby Bay Island.\u00a0 The TDF is designed to contribute to the development of the sector and such awards underscores the significance of these hotels supporting this initiative of the ABHTA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Antigua and Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute is instrumental in developing individuals for the hospitality sector, providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ABOUT THE TOURISM DEVELOPMENT FUND (TDF)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Tourism Development Fund (TDF), established November 2010, is a voluntary fund set up by the Antigua & Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association (ABHTA) to make a greater contribution to projects and activities which will add value to the local tourism industry and generate benefits to the various stakeholders who derive economic wellbeing from its growth.  The Fund will be used to help develop the young people of Antigua and Barbuda by providing training opportunities to those already within the tourism industry and scholarships to those desirous of pursuing further education to enter the industry which is the lifeblood of the island\u2019s economy.  <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

ABOUT THE ABHTA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ABHTA collectively represents the hospitality industry by educating, advocating and promoting to increase visitation and the economic benefits for Antigua and Barbuda. The primary focus is on the needs and best interests of the members of the Association. The membership of the Antigua & Barbuda Hotels & Tourism Association is open to all hotels, restaurants, airlines, and companies directly or indirectly involved in the tourism sector of Antigua and Barbuda.
