A High Court judge has given a sex therapist the go-ahead<\/g> to file a lawsuit against the Comptroller of Customs and Excise Division over the seizure of three shipments of sex toys and other paraphernalia last year.<\/p>

Justice Rickey Rahim in his oral judgment on Tuesday gave Giriraj \u201cRaj\u201d Ramnanan leave to pursue his judicial review lawsuit against the Customs Division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ramnanan, a businessman had said that the Customs Division had acted illegally in its delay in bringing proceedings against his company to forfeit the allegedly prohibited items.<\/p>

\"\"<\/div>\n\n\n\n

His lawyers had argued that the Customs Act required the division to bring such proceedings within a reasonable time after seizure.<\/p>

\"\"<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The judge gave the sex therapist until October 9 to file the claim and adjourned the matter to November 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to his affidavit, Ramnanan purchased and shipped the package to Trinidad between August and November last year valued at US$1,045.27 cents. In his affidavit, the businessman said that the package\u00a0 including vibrators, condoms and dildos, were seized for containing prohibited items.<\/p>

He said that he met with Customs officials in February and that no forfeiture proceedings were filed and the items were not returned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ramnanan claimed his business has suffered as a result of the seizures.<\/p>
