Did you know that Antigua and Barbuda have celebrated some of the most famous names over the past thousand years on their stamps? In this article, we’re going to take a look at some of the influential people that have been immortalized on them through the years.<\/p>

Leonardo da Vinci<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The country created an artistic stamp collection in 2015 to pay homage to a number of names from history. Among them, they chose one of the greatest artists of all time and released a Leonardo Da Vinci stamp that carried the image of one of his famous works, Lady with an Ermine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His work has not just crossed into stamps either; you can see his legacy live on in plenty of industries. For example, in the entertainment and iGaming sector, an industry in which companies produce a range of products, including slingo games<\/a> as well as roulette and live casinos, a game called Da Vinci Diamonds has been created. Gamers can play this Renaissance-themed slingo game, which includes tumbling reels and allows users to transport themselves back into the 1400s and 1500s. While, who can forget Dan Brown’s classic books? The DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons were instant classics that brought readers through the streets of Rome in their rollercoaster novels. <\/p>

Queen Victoria<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The most famous monarch of all time was on stamps in Antigua over 100 years ago. However, Queen Victoria never visited the island state. Instead, the first visit to Antigua and Barbuda was undertaken by Princess Margaret in the 1960s, while Queen Elizabeth II visited three times during her reign along with her husband, Prince Philip.<\/p>

Of course, before the British arrived, Antigua and Barbuda’s history had been a long and interesting one. Colombus landed in Antigua in 1493, and it was over a hundred years later that Britain gained control, with British ships arriving in the 1600s<\/a> to take over the two islands. However, the country gained full independence from the UK in 1981 and is now part of the Commonwealth.<\/p>

Martin Luther King, Jr.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In the 2006 stamp collection that immortalized a number of famous names from recent history, Martin Luther King’s image was used. He is one of the most well-known Americans of the past one hundred years after spearheading the struggle for equality in the country. He was not only an activist but a pastor and political philosopher, and before his death, he delivered one of the most famous speeches<\/a> of modern times, discussing his dream for the future. His legacy lives on in the US, and a holiday is celebrated in his honor every January, the month of his birthday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has slowly been developing tourist facilities since gaining independence in the 1980s and now has a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Nelson’s Dockyard. However, it’s not just the tourist facilities that should attract tourists to this beautiful island, but its history and people, as well as its treasure trove of old stamps for<\/p>
