LOOP CARIBBEAN: Antigua and Barbuda believes the arrival of Sunrise Airways to the country\u2019s aviation landscape will have a great impact on the tourism industry.<\/p>

Collin James, CEO of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, in an interview with Loop News on the sidelines of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association (CHTA) Caribbean Travel Marketplace in Montego Bay, Jamaica on May 23 said having more inter-island connectivity is important to the country given that it is set to host a number of events including the Fourth International Conference on Small Island Developing States and ICC T20 World Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOnce you put the airlift in place, the ability to get people to take that lift is easy. With all these events that are coming up, regional travel in particular is very, very important for Antigua and Barbuda,\u201d he said.<\/p>

\u201cSo being able to position new flights in from St Lucia, St Kitts, from Barbados, Trinidad, it’s all good for us. So, it helps to support the marketing activities that we do. For example, we have Carnival coming up, we have a team that goes down and they do road shows in all the malls in Trinidad, and they get the message out.\u201d<\/p>

He continued: \u201cSo, the airlift is critical, it’s important to have it in place but also to back that up with partnerships and programs and promotions to help to drive those numbers to the airlines and get those visitors to our shores.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On May 25, Sunrise Airways introduced its new service in the Eastern Caribbean connecting Dominica, Antigua, St Kitts, and St Lucia.<\/p>

The service will operate six days a week, excluding Tuesdays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Haiti based airline will use its 30 seat Embraer EMB 120 to operate the route.<\/p>
